Many teenagers have come to terms with being thrown into arranged marriages. It allows for them to have more freedom in their youth and not have to worry about relationships when they are younger. They have time to meet one another and decided whether or not this is something they really want to commit to. They then get engaged then married. They get to know one another prior to getting engaged and then married, it’s like dating. The marriage they get themselves into is basically a marriage of their families. It’s the girls fathers choice in who she marries, it allows for the father to find someone of the same religion and who has a good job so they would benefit from the relationship. This isn’t what everyone wants but it does make it easier for the youth to enjoy their life when they are younger without stressing over it.
Mariyam
Mariyam at age 17 had been married off to a man she had not known. She said that she believed that her father was doing what was best for her. After being married for six months her father had passed away, and she was stuck in a marriage where she was verbally abused. She was pregnant with his child, he became physically aggressive towards her after the passing of her father. Her mother in hopes of helping stop the harm that was being done to her daughter had said the child could possibly be male and this lessened the abuse. After she gave birth to healthy baby boy her husband continued to abuse her so badly it landed her in the hospital. Once out of the hospital she returned to the abusive life style only because she wanted to live with her son, she then got pregnant again and had a miscarriage, which resulted in more abuse. She eventually had gotten a divorce but this meant she gave up custody to her son, this tore her apart but it was better then staying in the abusive marriage.
