Forced marriage are revolved around customary practices, tradition and culture. The marriages are influenced by commerce of money, agreements of debts and the transfer of daughters between families forcing their children into these situations. Many young people living the Pakistani community feel as though they get trapped in a forced marriage and can never come out of it. Instead those people feel that standing up and fighting their opinion is a better option. The Sindh Assembly approved the Sindh Child Marriage Act in April 2014 to the marriage age to 18 and the consequences of breaking this is a punishable offense.
Ayesha Khan
At the age of 18, Ayesha Khan ran away from her home in Pakistan to Dundee then to London where she signed on to become an homeless person. She tried to disappear as her Uncle's searched high and low to find her for a year. Khan moved around trying to stay away from her Uncle’s but each time they were able to track her down and threatened to kill her if she didn't return to her parents in Pakistan. By that point Khan was exhausted and had nowhere else to go she so returned home to her parents. That night her Uncle grabbed her by the throat and aggressively said he would serve 20 years if Khan decided to run away again. Each day Khan was home she was overwhelmed with pressure to get married to a man she was distantly related to on her father's side of the family. A week went by and she was cornered into marriage for the punishment of running away. The first time she saw her husband was at the ceremony of the wedding. That night her husband raped her. She told her parents this and they showed no sympathy. She soon returned to Britain and her husband was able to get indefinite leave to join her. The marriage life with her husband became worse and as he became more violent and controlling. She was forced to be a good Pakistani housewife. Khan had tried to feld another violent night by her husband and her parents told her that she needed to figure out a way to make her marriage work or divorce her husband and marry an older man.
